About The Position

The Underwriting Counsel provides legal guidance and underwriting support for commercial and residential real estate transactions. This role is responsible for evaluating title matters, assessing risk, and issuing underwriting decisions in accordance with company guidelines and applicable law. The Underwriting Counsel partners with internal teams, agents, and clients to resolve complex title issues and support compliant, efficient closings.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in the State of Florida.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in real estate law, title underwriting, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of real estate transactions, title insurance practices, and related legal principles.
• Ability to analyze complex title matters and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience underwriting commercial real estate transactions.
• Prior experience with a title insurance underwriter or title agency.
• Familiarity with Florida-specific real estate and title regulations.
• Experience developing or advising on underwriting guidelines or policies.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze commercial and residential real estate transactions.
• Evaluate title searches, commitments, and related documentation.
• Issue underwriting decisions and provide risk assessments for title insurance matters.
• Advise internal teams, agents, and clients on title-related issues and curative requirements.
• Interpret and apply real estate laws, regulations, and underwriting standards.
• Escalate complex matters as appropriate and collaborate with underwriting leadership on policy guidance.
• Assist with development and communication of underwriting guidelines and best practices.
• Provide training and technical support to internal departments as needed.
