Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years commercial insurance underwriting experience
  • 3+ years with direct supervision and/or management of people
  • Advanced technical underwriting expertise with a high level of insurance knowledge & underwriting practices
  • Data analytics to monitor profitability of products, rate achievement, and SLA’s
  • High energy, pro-active self-starter with a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to set and meet goals by obtaining buy-in from management, peers and associates
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to achieve desired goals and interact effectively
  • High level of confidence, integrity, energy and enthusiasm
  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly detail oriented
  • Superior organization skills including the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor and coach Underwriters in technical and professional skills
  • Supervise the underwriting operations while providing guidance to a team of Underwriters
  • Monitor and report on portfolio performance and execute on strategic pricing and growth models
  • Administer and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, rating rules and insurance regulations
  • Work with Program Managers to strengthen and grow designated programs
  • Partner with Sales Executives and Program Managers to ensure fluid communication and alignment
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers
  • Create, coordinate and participate in underwriting training
  • Foster an environment conducive to continuous improvement
  • Solve for root cause problems and provide a resolution path
  • Recommend and implement changes to improve workflow, productivity, growth, profitability and quality
  • Monitor, manage and report on Service Level Agreement to key stakeholders
  • Participate and ensure quality control process
  • Obtain and understand market intel and trends
  • Underwrite as needed; risk selection, pricing and coverage assessment based on underwriting guidelines
  • Limited travel may be required

  • $120,000 - $150,000 base salary plus yearly cash bonus. Salary commensurate with knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location.
