The Allegion User Experience team is excited to offer a UX Design Engineer Internship, providing hands-on experience collaborating with our GSS software product teams.  At Allegion, our software teams are focused on building great software that allows our IoT enabled security hardware to do amazing things.  In this role you will have the opportunity to learn by doing.  Using AI tooling you’ll be part of a supportive, quality-driven software team that values psychological safety, collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning. We’re looking for interns who are eager to grow, have some experience or coursework in Agile environments, and are passionate about user-centered design. Above all, we seek motivated communicators who understand that building great software is a team effort. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to help build empathy for users and clearly share research findings.
  • Working knowledge of software engineering design, principles and systems thinking.
  • Resiliency and ability to adapt quickly.
  • Passion for user experience and usability of solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Comfort with design, software engineering and systems thinking.
  • Effective listening, time management and creative problem-solving techniques
  • A desire to learn, grow and develop by working on projects that will impact Allegion’s business and customers
  • Availability to work during East Coast business hours is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help conceptualize and develop solutions to user problems.
  • Collaborate with teams to verify design concept feasibility and fit with the system.
  • Assist in designing and developing full-stack applications and enhancements to support various software products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new features, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.
  • Leverage AI coding agents like Claude to implement rapid prototypes and solutions while maintaining quality.
  • Use Figma and GitHub to help define, document, and evolve, reasonable UI components that support designed-to-code workflow
  • Gain hands-on experience with modern technologies, AI tooling, and systems thinking while contributing to real-world projects.
  • Focus on usability and customer experience of current and future users of our access control systems.
  • Explore new tools, technologies, and trends, sharing insights with teammates.
  • Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to take thoughtful risks.
