This role will play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing user interfaces and experiences for public health applications and systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, product managers, public health experts, and stakeholders to ensure that the digital tools and systems developed are intuitive, accessible, and user-friendly. Your expertise will directly contribute to advancing public health initiatives through well-designed digital solutions.

  • Contribute to the UI/UX design efforts for the project, focusing on creating innovative, 508-compliant, user-centered designs that align with public health goals and requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand project objectives, user needs, and technical constraints.
  • Conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions and ensure that designs meet the needs of the target audience (e.g., healthcare professionals, government agencies, the general public).
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for web and mobile applications, ensuring consistency with established design systems and best practices.
  • Create user flows, information architectures, and interaction models that improve usability and accessibility for all users.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to CDC standards, accessibility guidelines (WCAG), and federal requirements.
  • Review and iterate designs based on feedback from stakeholders and usability testing results.
  • Work closely with developers to ensure the successful implementation of designs, and assist in troubleshooting design-related issues during development and QA phases.
  • Stay updated on design trends, tools, and technologies, as well as CDC and public health-related regulatory changes, to apply best practices in the design process.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust with the US federal government.
  • At least three years of experience supporting public health information technology projects.
  • 3-5 years of experience in UI/UX design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating experience in user-centered design for web and mobile applications.
  • Proven experience designing digital solutions for federal government applications.
  • Expertise in industry-standard design tools (e.g., Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, InVision).
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards and WCAG guidelines.
  • Experience with user research, usability testing, and creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Familiarity with front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and explain design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with CDC or public health organizations.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of public health data privacy and security standards.
