As a Vascular Technologist, you will perform high-quality vascular ultrasounds in our Vascular Medicine department. In this role, you will assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of disorders affecting the vascular system and perform non-invasive exams to assess for diseases or disorders. Every day, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of patients by ensuring they receive necessary care. A caregiver in this role works days from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with weekend, holiday and on-call requirements.

Requirements

  • Completion of an appropriate Allied Health Program leading to a degree or certificate in the application of non-invasive cardiovascular ultrasound techniques
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross certification
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or other appropriate national certification
  • Advanced training in anatomy, physiology, biology and physics
  • Demonstrated proficiency with non-invasive vascular laboratory equipment and procedures
  • Knowledge of the use and application of diagnostic imaging instrumentation, including pulse volume recordings, treadmill testing, duplex imaging systems, Doppler and portable continuous-wave Doppler
  • Knowledge of databases, image storage and electronic medical record
  • In-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to the circulatory system (usually attained in a training program)
  • Ability to provide after hours and weekend coverage when scheduled to do so
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing or walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires normal or corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • May requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound studies specific to veins and arteries, including carotid, aorta, mesenteric, renal and celiac cardiac mapping and pulse volume recordings.
  • Review patient history, obtain brief current patient history and determine the appropriate procedure(s) necessary for proper diagnosis, consulting with physician if there are any questions concerning the ultrasound exam.
  • Notify physicians of abnormal findings.
  • Prepare patients for examination, explain the procedure and assist patients on/off examination table and with dressing/undressing, as required.
  • Perform technical procedures in the application of duplex imaging and other non-invasive procedures on peripheral arteries.
  • Maintain appropriate testing documentation in patient medical records and a file copy of all examinations performed.
  • Accurately complete financial documentation for billing procedure.
  • Perform ultrasound and pulse volume recording studies at the hospital bedside, in the inpatient setting and in the outpatient clinics to report findings to the care provider.
  • Assist with interpretation of study results.
  • Correlate non-invasive vascular laboratory study results with other diagnostic studies performed (e.g., arteriograms, venograms, CT scans, and MRI).
  • Evaluate images and make preliminary decisions on patient findings.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory.
  • Assist in the correlation of Vascular Laboratory studies and in clinical research as outlined by the medical director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new equipment and procedures.
  • Assist with the interviewing of applicants and orientation and training of new members of the non-invasive vascular laboratory.
