About The Position

Copper Mountain Resort is a vacation destination located 75 miles west of Denver, Colorado in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Three vibrant, pedestrian-friendly village areas host lodging, retail outlets, restaurants, bars, and family activities. During the winter months, Copper's world-class terrain offers skiing and riding for all ages and abilities. Each summer, the mountain transforms into a playground for hikers, mountain bikers, and anyone seeking a genuine Colorado experience. Copper Mountain Resort is also home to Woodward Copper action-sports camps, programs, and training facility. The Vehicle Maintenance Small Engine & Golf Technician is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis and repair of all motorized and specialized machinery used to maintain the golf course. The goal is to work closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to keep the golf course maintenance operation running smoothly. This position also assists with repairs to snowmobiles, side by sides and other Copper Vehicles when needed. Provides Copper Mountain Resort with maximum safe vehicle availability.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must have a valid US Driver’s license.
  • Must have basic tools to perform major PMI’s and repairs on Powdr Copper Mountain’s fleet, (excluding “specialty tools”).
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Three years of experience working on small engines
  • Be knowledgeable, proficient and work with minimal supervision in these areas:
  • Troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems..
  • Troubleshooting and repair of small engine machines
  • Troubleshooting and repair of gas and engine systems.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in order to train co-workers in all maintenance areas of operation.
  • This position may require the use of a mountain radio/walkie-talkies for communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years experience working on small engines or a certificate of completion from and Auto/Diesel Technology School. Must include knowledge in the following areas: electrical, gas engine systems, computerized engine control systems, drive train, chassis, body repair, fuel systems, air systems, and schematic drawings.
  • Must possess the ability to operate all types of equipment that may be worked on.
  • Must possess the ability to coordinate multiple tasks at one time.
  • Experience working on golf course equipment
  • Experience using reel and bed knife grinders to sharpen and maintain reels
  • Experience with operating golf course equipment
  • Knowledge of the game of golf

Responsibilities

  • Performs PMI’s and resulting repairs in accordance with Powdr Copper Mountain’s Department of Vehicle Maintenance guidelines and standards on fleet, including all vehicles, ensuring maximum safe vehicle availability, with minimized costs.
  • Troubleshoots, analyzes, repairs, designs, modifies and completes failure analysis on small engine vehicles and machines.
  • Performs minor repairs on a leased golf cart fleet. Major repairs are done by Vendor.
  • Maintains mowing reels to include sharpening of reels, sharpening of bed knifes, replacing bearings and setting the height of cut as requested by the superintendent.
  • Frequently analyzes the quality of cut and other results of cultural practices in the field with or without the Superintendent.
  • Operates all golf course and other equipment to evaluate the results of previously performed maintenance.
  • May be asked by the Superintendent to perform other golf course maintenance duties outside of the shop.
  • Assist in training seasonal staff on the safe and proper operation of equipment, including pre-operational safety checks.
  • Is responsible for the inventory of golf course equipment parts.
  • Expected to assist in keeping the golf maintenance bay clean and organized to provide a safe working environment
  • Is responsible for inventory, repair and clean-up of one or more of the following areas: (a) tires, (b) paint and body, (c) welding, (d) fuel inventory, (e) lube supplies/hazardous materials, (f) general shop equipment, and (g) hydraulics.
  • Is accountable for accurate and precise recording of daily activities on work orders, indirect labor logs, and parts requisition to be used on the evaluation and administration portion of the Department’s operation.
  • Consults manuals, trade publications, trade associations, vendors, fellow employees, outside schools and training programs in order to stay up-to-date in new maintenance technologies to improve the efficiency and production of our operation.
  • Functions as an ambassador of Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with our guests and employees.
