About The Position

The Vendor Tooling Engineer [VTE] is responsible for working with incumbent and new suppliers, PUR Commodity Managers, and Supplier Quality Engineers to define, procure, and manage Allison-owned Tooling Assets that are maintained at the supplier(s) manufacturing facility (and sub-tier sources, where applicable). The VTE is championed with assessing tooling information shared via the ATI Form 1804/1810 regarding ATI need and sufficiently forecasting the implementation of that tooling/asset and writing the supporting Capital Appropriations Request that is submitted to our Executive Staff for review and approval. The VTE is also tasked with championing the resolution and disposition of Allison-owned tooling as part of Vendor Tooling Audits and Asset Disposal processes

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of Tooling Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related manufacturing Quality experience
  • Basic working knowledge of AIAG standards – APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, and MSA.
  • Working knowledge in Quality Systems fundamentals with a focus on IATF16949/ISO9001 requirements.
  • Knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Working knowledge in a limited number [1-3] manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Global Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and Allison vendors to support the tooling management process
  • Create and manage Cost-to-Completion (CTC’s) and Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR) according to monthly/annual forecast
  • Perform as needed, Vendor Tooling Audits to ensure continuity of supply
  • Support the disposition of Allison-owned assets through the Asset Disposal process
  • Support the development and implementation of annual 5-Year Business Plan supporting Capital Expenditures
  • Support the completion of Potential Supplier Assessments and participates in Technical Review Meetings (supporting Manufacturing Process Definition, and Tooling Design) as needed
