Your Impact The Vertex Data and Engineering Governance Co-op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our Data and Engineering Governance functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career. What you will be doing: The Data & Software Engineering (DSE) team within the Data, Technology, and Engineering (DTE) organization at Vertex is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Co-op to support our efforts in data governance, analytics, and engineering governance. This position will provide hands-on experience in managing governance of data assets, contributing to data governance initiatives, and supporting the development of innovative data and software solutions in the clinical, quality, and regulatory domains. The Co-op will work closely with cross-functional teams, gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies and processes in the biopharmaceutical industry. This is a 6-month co-op opportunity, offering a unique chance to contribute to impactful projects that drive data-driven decision-making and innovation in a global biotechnology company.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree
  • Strong interest in data governance, data management, and engineering governance within the biopharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Familiarity with data platforms and tools such as AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar technologies is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of data privacy, data security, and compliance regulations (e.g., GxP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future.
  • You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before December 2026.
  • You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July – December 2026.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with project management tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and software development lifecycle is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Data & Software Engineering (DSE) team to support the development and execution of data and analytics strategies aligned with clinical, quality, and regulatory business needs.
  • Assist in the documentation, management, and quality assurance of prioritized data projects and assets
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings with portfolio managers, platform owners, and business engagement leads to gather requirements and contribute to the design of data models.
  • Assist in building metrics to show the resource usage over the period of project execution activities
  • Assist in maintain updates to the portfolio projects for DSE (Clinical, Reg, Quality)
