PURPOSE The Veterans Education Benefits Coordinator assists in the operations of the Office of Military and Veterans Services at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. The Veterans Education Benefits Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Veterans Education Benefits. DESCRIPTION Functional Area 1: Certification, Reporting and Data Management Percent Effort: 65% Certify both State (Hazelwood Act Exemption) and Federal Veterans Education Benefits (GI Bill©). Assist in the evaluation of requirements and confirming the receipt of State and Federal documentation to process benefits. Assist with the reporting of enrollment and graduation information to the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) while ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations. Analyze and monitor student enrollment, financial accounts, and academic records of those using Veterans Education Benefits. Functional Area 2: Administrative Percent Effort: 20% Assist students and their families with Financial Aid, Scholarship and Veterans Education Benefit application and processing. Assist with the bi-annual catalog update/program approval with the State Approving Agency (SAA). Monitor the VA Work-Study program. Functional Area 3: Outreach and Engagement Percent Effort: 15% Represent the Office of Military and Veteran Services at on and off campus activities and inform students and families of important dates, deadlines, and other pertinent information. Serve as the alternate or primary point of contact for the Veterans Success Committee and as a liaison to the Student Veteran Organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • Additional education may be considered as substitution for the minimum experience requirement: High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience or Associate’s degree and four (4) years of related experience or Master’s degree
  • Knowledge of Institutional, State and Federal Financial Aid programs.
  • Proficiency in Financial Aid software and systems.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience in managing records, student programs, and/or working in information technology.
