About The Position

Vetting Trainer Permanent Full time Grade F Those on the redeployment register will be given prior consideration. The main purpose of the role is to research, design, deliver and evaluate training programmes. Assess the achievement of trainees and provide professional feedback and/or developmental plans as appropriate. Ensure all training is compliant with APP, the Code of Practice and the obligations of the ISO:9001 Quality Management System and to provide ongoing quality assurance of vetting case decisions.

Requirements

  • Educated to A level or equivalent
  • Level 4 Award in Education & Training (or prepared to work to achieve Level 4)
  • Familiar with and competent to use/explain the role of relevant policy / legislation (e.g. Data Protection Act, Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, College of Policing Vetting Code of Practice, College of Policing Vetting APP and National Decision Model)
  • Experience in Police Vetting
  • Supporting and developing the professional development of others
  • Supervising people within a customer focused team
  • Experience of researching, interpreting and collating complex information and presenting accurate, comprehensive documentation demonstrating thorough attention to detail
  • Able to assimilate and apply information, make decisions and act on own judgement
  • Able to work to strict deadlines, managing a high and diverse workload
  • Experience of investigative interviewing
  • Ability to analyse, assimilate and record complex information interpret and apply legislation / policy and make informed recommendations and decisions
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, oral and written) leading to the ability to communicate with officers, staff and members of the public
  • Ability to record relevant information accurately using departmental IT systems
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality
  • Proven ability to manage high workloads in accordance with strict deadlines
  • Ability to provide developmental and balanced feedback

Responsibilities

  • Research, prepare and plan training material according to stated objectives and in accordance with organisational requirements
  • Conduct training needs analysis to address identified areas for development and create lesson plans to deliver the training
  • Identify and apply appropriate evaluation processes, incorporating feedback into training design.
  • To prepare and assess reports, tests and assessments on delegates/students as required
  • To maintain knowledge and skills with regard to national, regional and local developments; validate and update training material as appropriate to ensure it reflects the latest national policy, guidance and legislative and changes to relevant Case Law
  • Undertake personal development opportunities and training as identified by the Head of PNVS and maintain the appropriate knowledge and accreditation required
  • Ensure all training is compliant with the College of Policing Vetting Code of Practice, APP, Code of Ethics and all ISO:9001 requirements
  • Conduct internal audits that comply with the ISO:9001 accreditation. This is to include quality assurance of vetting files to ensure compliance with the Code of Practice and Authorised Professional Practice and ensure learning is identified and embedded within local policy and practice
  • Oversee the Vetting Quality Assurance Officers in conducting quality assurance audits of vetting files and appeal rationales to ensure compliance with the Vetting Code of Practice, Vetting Authorised Professional Practice and and the obligations of the ISO:9001 Quality Management System
  • To support the learning of others using the most effective medium
  • Evaluate training and offer further support as necessary to ensure Vetting staff have the appropriate knowledge and skills to carry out their duties
  • To deliver ongoing refresher training and Continued Professional Development
  • Deliver external vetting training to other police forces and organisations where appropriate
  • To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required
