About The Position

BlackRock’s Financial Institutions Group (FIG) develops and fosters connectivity and drives business outcomes with insurance companies by leveraging insurance expertise, a global platform, and BlackRock’s leading capabilities in asset management, markets advisory, and risk technology. BlackRock is the largest and leading 3rd party manager of insurance assets in the world, and the insurance practice is a strategic focus at BlackRock. The FIG team oversees relationships with over 400 insurance companies globally, covering over $600 billion of invested assets across public and private fixed income, equity and multi-asset investment strategies. The FIG team’s specialization and focus on insurance promotes a solutions-oriented approach to meeting the unique needs of insurance companies and the insurance industry broadly. As Vice President on the FIG team, you will work as part of a team of client-facing relationship management professionals with a deep understanding of industry trends, client needs, and BlackRock’s capabilities across investment management, risk, and advisory. The individual will have a book of clients across P&C, Health and Life insurance lines of business. You will be a key, senior point of contact for external clients and will work across various internal partner teams with the goal of delivering the firm to this important institutional client segment. The role will be based in New York.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience working in financial services industry, with a strong preference towards working with insurance companies in a client coverage capacity
  • Proven track record of regular engagement and existing relationships with US insurers
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of how insurers invest across the various regulatory frameworks and what trends are impacting their go forward approach.
  • Strong knowledge of fixed income, equity and alternative markets and instruments
  • Relevant FINRA requirements (Series 7, 63)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to think and act proactively, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to train and mentor junior colleagues on the broader responsibilities of an insurance relationship manager.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of BlackRock's asset management and associated services, including: Engaging BlackRock’s capabilities and organization on behalf of our clients Design, ownership, and delivery of complex and/or ad hoc client requests Preparation for and participation in client market and portfolio reviews Regular and ad-hoc data and analytics requests generated by Aladdin Ensure that the client receives accurate and timely client reporting Act as an escalation point for internal and external stakeholders with respect to your book of clients.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with senior client counterparts, which requires: Demonstrating expertise in our client’s industry dynamics and trends as well as their specific investment needs Demonstrating an understanding in the fundamentals of insurance financial statements, regulatory and accounting trends Anticipating client needs and prompt responses to client inquiries Cultivating an awareness of client specific investment and operational priorities and sensitivities
  • Supporting new business and product development, including: Supporting account plan development and execution for current clients to expand relationships, helping to drive commercial opportunities Developing knowledge of BlackRock products and services Initiating and designing client specific solutions Supporting implementation, including account set up, guideline development and establishing service needs
