About The Position

Boston Scientific is seeking a strategic and visionary Vice President of Commercial Sourcing to lead our global strategy for Direct Materials sourcing, with a strong emphasis on securing critical components that underpin our manufacturing and R&D capabilities. This newly created position represents a key investment in strengthening our sourcing leadership by bringing in a transformative leader who can drive strategic change and act as a trusted business partner across the enterprise. This is a high-impact executive role responsible for overseeing a global organization of ~150 professional sourcing staff, including leading a senior, externally facing supplier engagement team that regularly interfaces with BSC’s supplier leaders at the Director, VP, and CEO levels. The Vice President will serve as the architect of the global commercial sourcing ecosystem, focusing on business supply continuity, optimal customer service, cost competitiveness, and supplier-driven NPD innovation. As a key leader in the Global Sourcing team, this individual will collaborate closely with senior stakeholders across the end-to-end supply chain, regions, and divisions (including Sustaining teams and New Product Development) to ensure that sourcing category strategies directly support business growth, operational efficiency, and long-term supply continuity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of progressive sourcing leadership experience, including senior-level ownership of Direct Materials and component sourcing.
  • Proven track record of leading a large, global sourcing team
  • Strong experience working in regulated manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated ability to craft and execute sourcing strategies that span product lifecycles, geographies, and business units.
  • Executive-level communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Deep expertise in supplier engagement, contract management, category strategy, and operational integration.
  • Ability to travel 15-30%

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive Boston Scientific’s global strategy for commercial sourcing of Direct Materials, with a specialized focus on component categories critical to business continuity and growth.
  • Translate enterprise priorities into actionable sourcing roadmaps—balancing cost optimization, innovation enablement, quality standards, and risk management.
  • Establish global frameworks and category strategies that deliver competitive advantage across product lines and geographic regions.
  • Conduct comprehensive buyer and market profiles to assess sourcing landscape dynamics, emerging supplier capabilities, and innovation opportunities.
  • Monitor and synthesize market intelligence and global supply trends to proactively inform sourcing decisions and stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing sourcing organization of ~150 global professionals, including approximately 6-8 Director-level leaders.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-accountability culture focused on excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Attract, retain, and develop top sourcing talent with a focus on future-ready capabilities and succession planning.
  • Serve as Boston Scientific’s executive representative to key strategic suppliers—negotiating enterprise-level agreements and shaping long-term partnerships.
  • Lead efforts to diversify, regionalize, and de-risk the supply base while maintaining agility and responsiveness to global business needs.
  • Guide supplier innovation strategies to support R&D pipelines, product enhancements, and sustainability goals.
  • Partner closely with global manufacturing sites and supply chain operations to ensure sourcing strategies are embedded in material planning, capacity readiness, and production execution.
  • Influence make/buy and internal/external sourcing decisions—ensuring alignment with cost, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Provide direction to plant material leaders and ensure alignment across business units and operational functions.
  • Establish strong governance processes, sourcing policies, and supplier performance metrics across regions and categories.
  • Collaborate with Supplier Quality, Regulatory, Legal, and Finance to ensure compliance with global regulations and internal standards.
  • Ensure sourcing practices align with regulated industry requirements, with a preference for experience in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, food, or large-scale supply chain operations.
  • Operate as a trusted executive advisor to senior internal stakeholders, particularly divisional heads of R&D/product development and global supply chain segment leaders (plan, source, make, deliver).
