About The Position

Callen-Lorde Community Health Center seeks a strategic and experienced Vice President of Human Resources (VPHR) to lead enterprise-wide human resources strategy and operations. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President of Human Resources provides executive leadership across all HR functions including workforce strategy, talent acquisition, labor relations, compensation and benefits, employee relations, organizational learning, and HR compliance. The VPHR plays a critical role in strengthening organizational performance by developing and implementing human resources strategies that support workforce stability, leadership development, and operational effectiveness. This role partners closely with executive leadership, managers, and staff to ensure that the organization’s people practices support long-term sustainability and organizational growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including 7+ years in leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, HR compliance, training and development, and HRIS systems.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulatory compliance.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate organizational priorities into HR initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior leader of the Human Resources department, providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and leadership for all HR functions.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop and implement workforce strategies that support organizational growth, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability.
  • Advise senior leadership and management on complex employee relations matters, workforce planning, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement policies, systems, and practices that support a high-performing and accountable workplace culture.
  • Provide executive oversight of the organization’s recruitment strategy in partnership with the Talent Acquisition team.
  • Ensure the development of strong talent pipelines and effective hiring processes that support organizational workforce needs.
  • Partner with leadership to support succession planning, workforce forecasting, and internal career development pathways.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to leadership on employee relations, workplace investigations, and performance management matters.
  • Oversee disciplinary processes, employee grievance resolution, and conflict management.
  • Lead and maintain constructive labor relations, including participation in labor-management meetings and collective bargaining processes where applicable.
  • Oversee compensation strategy, salary administration, and benefits programs to ensure competitiveness, compliance, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and update the organization’s Employee Policies and Procedures Manual and related HR policies.
  • Establish and lead the organization’s learning and development strategy, including leadership development, management training, and professional development initiatives.
  • Build and oversee programs that strengthen workforce capability, support leadership growth, and enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of learning initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and workforce needs.
  • Oversee core HR programs including performance management cycles, employee engagement initiatives, compliance training, and HR systems management.
  • Ensure effective onboarding and orientation programs that support employee integration and engagement.
  • Maintain oversight of employee records and HR documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
