The VP, Real 2.0 will have direct responsibility for the development and deployment of new, innovative, and disruptive products in the marketplace that will simplify the end-to-end healthcare experiences across payers, providers and consumers. You will have direct accountability for the profitable growth and deployment of the overall Real 2.0 portfolio and will work directly with customers and internal and external partners to deliver on customer commitments. This role is expected to be a liaison across multiple business segments to deliver on our out-year growth strategy specific to Real 2.0. This leader will work across Optum and UnitedHealth Group (UHG) to ensure the business case and the return on investment is being validated at the Optum Insight level. The VP, Real 2.0 will be accountable for driving financial management and operationalization efforts across the portfolio of new products. You will have indirect accountability for the successful client and cost delivery through matrixed operations & automation teams and other groups required to deliver upon our aggressive growth objectives. The successful candidate must be passionate about driving innovative and disruptive new products, creating new markets, discovering new business opportunities, working in a fast-paced environment and displaying stellar executive presence with c-Suite executives. The VP, Real 2.0 will be directly aligned with our Chief Product and Services Innovation leader. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Hybrid in MN/DC: This position follows a hybrid schedule with four in-office days per week.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience of successfully launching large-scale product innovations and delivering measurable results in healthcare
  • Proven ability to analyze complex market opportunities and develop creative solutions to a wide variety of unique market problems
  • Demonstrated track record of active collaboration, engagement, oversight, and strategy development of key growth opportunities
  • Experience leading and growing the P&L of a solutions business in a healthcare or technology organization
  • Demonstrated visionary thinking and ability to translate business strategies that create or sustain competitive advantage
  • Demonstrated track record of acting as an innovative thought leader and business partner to executives across multiple business units
  • Prior experience functioning as an organization’s authority and established expert to develop solutions based on an understanding of the business environment, competitive landscape, and company objectives
  • Experience managing a team of high performing leaders supporting a portfolio of ideation and incubation initiatives
  • Experience motivating, developing, coaching, and guiding people in a matrixed organization
  • Experience managing a globally distributed team

Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy & Innovation
  • Define and champion a unified product vision, strategy, and multi‑year roadmap for end‑to‑end solutions simplifying healthcare aligned with enterprise growth objectives, brand strategy, and competitive positioning
  • Drive disruptive innovation incubating net‑new products, platforms, and business models that unlock new revenue streams across Optum, Optum Insight, and UHG
  • Lead the design and delivery of AI‑first, technology‑enabled products and services that address complex healthcare challenges across payer, provider, and consumer segments
  • Establish clear success metrics, roadmaps, and outcome‑based KPIs to ensure products deliver measurable business value, customer satisfaction, and market differentiation
  • Go‑to‑Market & Market Leadership
  • Formulate and execute go‑to‑market strategies, identifying opportunities for new clients, markets, and service offerings
  • Serve as a thought leader and trusted advisor internally and externally, translating market insights, client needs, and competitive intelligence into actionable product strategies
  • Provide market‑leading perspectives on disruptive capabilities, emerging technologies, and innovative development approaches for simplifying healthcare end to end for payer, providers and consumers
  • Executive Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as an executive partner to senior leaders across Optum, UHG, Technology, and Operations to align product strategy with business goals
  • Communicate regularly with enterprise executives, providing clear strategy updates, performance insights, and investment outcomes
  • Build and manage deep relationships with key clients and partners to ensure long‑term satisfaction, loyalty, and adoption
  • Product Delivery & Experience Excellence
  • Lead data‑driven product decision‑making grounded in consumer insights, usability research, market analysis, and design thinking
  • Partner closely with engineering and technology teams to deliver high‑velocity product enhancements using agile methodologies
  • Own ongoing product performance, operational health, and customer outcomes post‑launch
  • Financial & P&L Accountability
  • Own and grow a significant product P&L, delivering against revenue, IOI, and profitability targets
  • Partner with line‑of‑business leaders to define and manage a multi‑year product investment roadmap, including capital investments, ensuring ROI validation at the Optum Insight and enterprise levels
  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and performance management to drive sustainable growth
  • People & Organizational Leadership
  • Build, lead, and scale a world‑class product team
  • Attract, develop, and retain top product talent while fostering a high‑performance, innovation‑driven culture
