About The Position

The company is a leading provider of kidney care services in the United States, delivering dialysis services to patients with chronic kidney failure and end-stage renal disease. DaVita has a dynamic and complex operational structure, including over 700 joint ventures and operations in more than 13 international jurisdictions. As a publicly traded corporation, we are committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and a collaborative culture that we call the “DaVita Way of Life.” The Vice President, Global Tax will serve as the strategic leader of the company’s global tax function. This executive role is responsible for developing and executing the company’s global tax strategy, ensuring compliance with all international, federal, and state laws, and managing all aspects of the tax department. The successful candidate will lead a team of tax professionals and work collaboratively across the organization, including with accounting, legal, and executive leadership, to manage tax risk and identify opportunities. This position requires a seasoned leader with deep technical expertise in a complex, multi-national corporate environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15+ years of progressive tax experience in a large, publicly traded, multi-national corporation or a Big Four accounting firm.
  • Significant experience leading a global tax function, including direct management of international tax, federal tax, and state & local tax (SALT).
  • Proven track record in tax provision, tax planning, compliance, transfer pricing, and M&A in a complex, multinational and multi-jurisdictional environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a law license is required.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with a track record of attracting, developing, and retaining talent.
  • Strong strategic and big-picture thinking, with the ability to translate complex tax issues into actionable business strategy.
  • Excellent communication and persuasion skills, with the ability to influence and drive decisions with senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives and independently resolve challenges across multiple functional areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Taxation and/or a Juris Doctor (JD) is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Tax Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive global tax strategy that aligns with the company’s business goals and financial strategy.
  • Provide strategic counsel to executive leadership on tax implications of major business decisions, including mergers, acquisitions, new ventures, and expansions.
  • Create a shared vision and take a long-range perspective to set functional goals and objectives for the entire tax department.
  • Stay current with industry trends and changes in tax legislation, including the Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax, and assess their impact on the company.
  • Global Tax Operations & Compliance: Oversee all global tax compliance, including federal, state, local, and foreign tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage global transfer pricing policies and documentation related to intercompany transactions.
  • Lead the global tax provision process for financial reporting purposes (ASC 740).
  • Direct the management of all tax audits and controversies with tax authorities at all levels.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global tax team, fostering a culture of belonging, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Own the culture of the team and implement leadership practices that build engagement with our mission and core values.
  • Manage performance of the department and teach others how to coach for growth, development, and performance.
  • Effectively manage the team through organizational changes and realign resources to respond to shifting priorities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Develop strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders, including Accounting, Legal, and other business leaders, to achieve enterprise goals.
  • Serve as the primary tax liaison for a complex structure involving a large number of legal entities and over 700 joint ventures.
  • Communicate complex tax concepts with simplicity and clarity to senior audiences and cross-functional partners.
  • Collaborate closely with the Legal department on tax matters related to corporate structure and governance.
