The External Investing Group (XIG) Group provides investors with investment and advisory solutions, across leading hedge fund managers, private equity funds, real estate managers, public equity strategies and fixed income strategies. The XIG Group manages globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and a range of advisory services. Our investors access opportunities through new fund commitments, fund-of-fund investments, strategic partnerships, secondary-market investments, co-investments, and seed-capital investments. With over 300 professionals across eight offices around the world, the XIG Group provides manager diligence, portfolio construction, risk management, and liquidity solutions to investors, drawing on Goldman Sachs’ market insights and risk management expertise. The XIG Data Office is broadly responsible for driving day‑to‑day governance and performance oversight of XIG’s Private Markets data environment. That is achieved through daily platform health and quality monitoring and remediation, proactively identifying structural design limitations and partnering with XIG stakeholders to design, test and implement next generation Data solutions. The group is also responsible for the core tenets of Data governance including training, culture and performance transparency to senior and Divisional stakeholders. The External Investing Group (XIG) Data Office, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vice President to play a pivotal role in Data transformation. The role spans Data governance, KPI design, root cause attribution, infrastructure modernization and stakeholder relationship management. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to enhancing data quality, accessibility, and ensuring XIG’s resilience in an evolving data landscape, ultimately supporting investment performance, client experience, and regulatory compliance. Scope of the role and platform: Direct interaction with XIG portfolio managers and client management teams, and all the functional teams that support our business globally (legal, compliance, controllers, operations, tax, shareholder services, and fund services). Locations include New York, San Francisco, West Palm, London, Hong Kong, Bangalore and Tokyo. 600+ portfolios investing in 4,600+ structures across all private market strategies, including primaries, secondaries, co-investments, GP stakes, private credit, and real estate with over 60k underlying portfolio companies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in data management, data governance, data architecture, or business analysis within the financial services industry, with a strong preference for private markets experience and a Fund of Fund business model
  • Proven track record of leading or significantly contributing to large-scale data transformation initiatives
  • Deep understanding of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and data lifecycle management.
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts (cloud-based preferred), data integration, and reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, including experience with OKR frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities, contributing to the overall resilience and adaptability of XIG.
  • A proactive and results-oriented mindset with a commitment to driving cultural change.
  • Ability to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans and deliverables.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications in data extraction, entity resolution, and data quality is highly desirable (e.g., Canoe Intelligence).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage key strategic data initiatives within XIG, owning workstreams and Data sets.
  • Daily monitoring of Platform and vertical specific KPIs
  • KPI design and program‑management activities aligned with broader organizational objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate workflows via a data driven approach.
  • Drive data rationalization programs, including attributing inputs, outputs, owners and appropriate gating controls; expanding and strengthen validation and verification checks to remediate data exceptions.
  • Contribute to identifying and delivering AI‑driven data‑extraction solutions to further scale data consumption.
  • Partner with functional teams and business units to diagnose and resolve data‑quality challenges.
  • Participate in and support data governance bodies and organizational data‑office initiatives.
  • Implement data‑quality metrics (integrity, completeness, accuracy, timeliness) and monitoring frameworks.
  • Promote and help institutionalize a data‑driven culture through leadership, training, and best‑practice adoption.
  • Promote principles that reduce data‑entry points to minimize operational risk.
  • Engage regularly with stakeholder groups across business verticals to gather feedback and ensure solutions deliver value for data consumers.
  • Prepare and present weekly Data progress updates to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate and influence cross‑functional teams to support successful program execution and adoption of new data practices.
