About The Position

Our client is looking for a strong Virtualization Engineer to join their team. This person should have experience upgrading and supporting VMware and Nutanix environments for customers. This person should expect to travel to Annapolis, Lanham, and TierPoint Data Center located in Linthicum, MD as needed for project work including racking / stacking new servers, physical hosts, server deployments, etc. It will be a hybrid position but this person can sit remote when they don't need to come on-site to the Data Center or their hospital locations for any specific project work that needs to be done on-site. o This person should be very familiar with VMware infrastructure o Server Hardware Architecture o Nutanix HCI and Acropolis o This person will be supporting the environment (VMware and Nutanix) o Building out server requests o Internal patching and security updates for infrastructure Nutanix Acropolis is the software foundation and operating system (AOS) that powers Nutanix's Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) solutions. While HCI is the overarching, vendor-agnostic technology combining compute, storage, and networking into a single software-defined platform, Acropolis is the specific, proprietary product designed to manage, virtualize, and scale that infrastructure. Key Differences and Relationship: • Definition: HCI is the broad technology concept • Acropolis is the specific software product (part of the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud OS) that implements this concept. • Function: HCI aims to simplify data centers by replacing traditional 3-tier architecture with software-defined, node-based hardware. Acropolis provides the built-in virtualization (via AHV), distributed storage, and management needed to run that hardware. • Components: HCI includes compute, storage, and networking hardware. Acropolis focuses on the software layer (Acropolis Operating System or AOS) that manages these resources. Position Objective: Expertise in various system’s hardware, software, physical and virtual infrastructures. Strong knowledge of VMWare ESX, Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory and other Microsoft server platforms. Experience with Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructures. The ability to support, maintain, build, deploy, monitor and troubleshoot within the areas of technologies listed above. Provide cross training and knowledge base content to assist other team members. Liaise between IT Management, sponsors, users and other IS personnel to communicate issues regarding overall operations status and strategy. Contributes to projects and works closely with other IT groups to ensure compliance with organizations goals and objectives of having an innovative, redundant infrastructure allowing for business continuance and disaster recovery. Expectation of meeting current best practices and security standards resulting in high functionality and performance while ensuring close to zero downtime.

Requirements

  • Experience building, configuring, and supporting VMWare server infrastructure
  • Experience with Nutanix HCI and Acropolis
  • Experience supporting Data Centers (deploying virtual servers, racking / stacking servers, physical hosts, etc.)
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree preferred, or a combination of education, training, and work experience
  • Minimum of 4 years direct senior level technical Windows Server, physical and virtual infrastructure experience in an enterprise class environment.
  • Expertise in various system’s hardware, software, physical and virtual infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of VMWare ESX, Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory and other Microsoft server platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, leads and conducts the day-to-day operation, administration and all other activities of the Nutanix Acropolis, VMware, Windows Server, hardware and software applications assigned.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating "As-Built" documentation, testing documentation, and other information, which depicts the physical and logical configuration of the storage system, backup system, physical / virtual servers and sub-systems.
  • Responds to trouble tickets and service request calls. Providing assistance and takes appropriate action; utilizing a variety of tools.
  • Provides third tier support in problem escalation process while mentoring and educating tiers one and two.
  • Communicates with users in a timely manner to ensure problem resolution and take proactive measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Installs and configures all necessary software and hardware to support the organizations business continuity/disaster recovery plan.
  • Enters and tracks all trouble calls into problem tracking application.
  • Provides task management and technical support for special projects.
  • Provides assistance with research and evaluation of proposed hardware and software modifications and upgrades.
  • Attends classes, seminars, conferences and reviews professional literature to enhance knowledge of trends and developments related to Digital Workspace technologies.
