About The Position

Canisius University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of History teaching Modern American History and/or Modern European History for the 2026-2027 Academic Year in the Department of History to teach US history and/or European history surveys at the introductory level and develop upper-level courses in the candidate’s field of expertise. For Modern American History, this could include the study of race and ethnicity, gender, and urban history. For Modern European History, this could include the study of genocide, globalization, immigration, refugees, as well as Europe in the wider world. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching four courses per semester.

Requirements

  • D. in History completed by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach U.S. history and/or European history survey courses at the introductory level.
  • Evidence of scholarly engagement in a field related to Modern American history and/or Modern European history.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and student learning within a liberal arts context.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Canisius University and the Jesuit tradition in education.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States (This position is not eligible for sponsorship).
