About The Position

The University of Wyoming Department of Visual Arts welcomes applications for a full time benefited one-year renewable contract Visiting Assistant Professor of Photography position.  Qualified candidates will have the ability to coordinate a Photography curriculum and teach a range of Photography processes from traditional black and white darkroom techniques to digital photography.  They will be able to run a digital lab with large format printers along with a darkroom for processing and printing black and white film. Their experience should include teaching in a Photography curriculum, familiarity with various Photography pedagogies and approaches, and teaching students in a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate would also be able to teach in a secondary area, such as 2D, Color Theory, and/or 3D Foundations, or other studio areas of expertise as needed. Desired skills include experience as a skilled communicator with the ability to communicate orally, in writing and digitally; experience working in a collaborative team of educators; experience working with non-traditional students, first generation students, and students with disabilities; and experience in professional organizations. The successful candidate will incorporate equitable classroom policies such as encouraging inclusion and representation of diverse viewpoints and utilizing multiple methods of content delivery including in-person, online and hybrid modalities. The Photography area emphasizes the technical side of image capture, editing and printing both digitally and in the darkroom before moving students on to larger scale, more conceptual projects. While introductory courses emphasize image capture and work flow, upper division courses will introduce students to a broad range of alternative process and subject themed courses ranging from, but not exclusive to, book photography to wet plate to landscape and portrait, depending on the strengths of the teacher. The Visual Arts Building, a state-of-the-art Leed Certified construction, was completed in 2012 and provides individual office and faculty studio space in the building and near the Photography classrooms.
