About The Position

Eastern National (EN), a not-for-profit partner working with El Yunque National Forest, is seeking a Visitor Services Specialist with a strong work ethic to support our retail and visitor services operations at El Yunque National Forest. This is a part-time seasonal, hourly position. The Visitor Services Specialist must be able to work weekends and holidays. We’re looking for someone who is versatile, dedicated and has a desire to learn and grow with Eastern National. The Visitor Services Specialist acts as a primary point of contact for visitors, playing a key role in ensuring a rewarding, and safe experience in the forest through friendly and courteous customer engagement. The Visitor Services Specialist performs interpretive programs and provides the visitor with information for services and recreational resources at El Portal and the El Yunque National Forest. The Visitor Services Specialist will be trained to assist in all aspects of collection, cash handling and management to include, processing, reconciliation, and daily settling of receipts according to Eastern National’s policies, procedures, and standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year experience in retail and/or cash handling environment preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in outdoor education and/or interpretive field preferred.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, effective written and verbal communication.
  • Computer proficiency required with applied understanding of Microsoft Office software and POS systems.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work location.
  • Primarily standing for long periods of time to include occasional bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to walk/hike in trail areas or move between locations and other areas on forest property.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification or prior education in the field of outdoor education and/or interpretive field experience is preferred.
