Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • One to two years of professional experience working in business or a position with customer service responsibilities required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to relate to a diverse population required
  • Attention to detail and highly organized with the ability to maintain confidentiality required
  • Proficient in MS Office suite including the ability to create spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel required
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to work autonomously as well as in teams required
  • Experience adapting to new software preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Accounting Certificate or completion of a minimum of 12 semester hours of Accounting coursework, including coursework in income tax preparation, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Provide support and connection to taxpayers during the tax return filing process.
  • Complete IRS training and minimum of four certification exams; Volunteer Standards of Conduct; Intake/Interview an Quality Review Training; and Basic and Advanced Tax Law
  • Oversee taxpayer inquiries and ensure follow-up is completed in a timely manner
  • Research and resolve IRS acknowledgments and rejected returns in TaxSlayer
  • Assist with distribution of promotional materials to community locations as needed and serve as liaison for program
  • Research and respond to questions and provide information to team members, and taxpayer email and phone inquiries
  • Assist with administrative duties including creating tax preparer accounts, managing time tracking software, monitoring time reports, managing site appointment software, and communicating status with team
  • Monitor & Create Excel reports tracking tax preparer hours and other data for VITA grant requirements
  • Contribute to weekly meetings with VITA team and team members
  • Supervise VITA site operations (primarily Saturday/Sunday) at the main campus and off-campus locations
  • Provide oversight of high school volunteers and department student workers. Ensure completion of appropriate IRS certification exams and maintain records of required forms for high school volunteers and student workers.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for customer issues on-site. Work with instructors to facilitate appropriate resolution.
  • Schedule client appointments in SimpleTix and manage appointment availability in SimpleTix with guidance from the Site Coordinator
  • Manage volunteer materials and supplies, including preparation of name tags and weekly volunteer list with assignments
  • Maintain VITA site supplies including paper, forms, ink cartridges, and office supplies as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
