About The Position

Computational Physics, Inc. (CPI) is seeking a VMware Engineer to support our customers at the United States Naval Observatory (USNO) in the deployment and maintenance of its new Precise Time and Astrometry Network. The USNO is responsible for the production and dissemination of precise parameters concerning time, star positions, and the earth's rotation to the Department of Defense (DoD) and intelligence community, other U.S. Government (USG) users such as NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as well as non-USG civilian and international users. Distribution of these parameters supports GPS navigation, among other applications, an important national and international function. A reliable, secure, maintainable and manageable USNO network is crucial to the production and dissemination of these data products. The successful candidate will: Provide direct technical support to the Precise Time, Celestial Reference Frame, Earth Orientation, and Astronomical Applications Departments at USNO Work with USNO Information Assurance staff to ensure compliance with DOD cybersecurity requirements Prepare and maintain associated documentation The position will be located at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, DC. Partial telework may be permitted in accordance with applicable Navy and Observatory guidance in effect at the time.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of experience managing and configuring enterprise-level highly virtualized networks
  • Experience deploying and managing vSphere environment 7.0/8.0
  • Experience with Dell/Cisco UCS and HP hardware
  • Experience with VMware security hardening (STIGs)
  • Experience managing multiple vCenter/ESXi with PowerCLI and automating recurring tasks
  • Experience managing storage infrastructure within vSphere environments
  • Experience reviewing/identifying security vulnerabilities and applying remediations
  • Experience monitoring vSphere health and performance and assisting with performance issues
  • Experience supporting Omnissa Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
  • Experience with Tanzu or other container development platforms
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret level security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required by our contract.
  • Security+ certification or DOD-accepted equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in DoD cyber security is highly desirable.
  • Data center experience is highly desirable.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification is highly desirable
