About The Position

The Volunteer Partners Coordinator is responsible for providing the administrative, relational, and operational support necessary to effectively engage both new and current volunteers. This role intentionally expands and strengthens volunteer involvement across Mount Hermon by identifying and increasing opportunities for service, recruiting new volunteers, and encouraging deeper commitment from existing volunteers. Through thoughtful coordination, communication, and on-site leadership, the coordinator helps ensure volunteer efforts meaningfully support Mount Hermon’s ministries and operational needs, while remaining fully aligned with MHA’s mission, vision, and values. General Qualifications: The Volunteer Partners Coordinator is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision, beliefs and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. All staff join into our community life of prayer, worship and spiritual activity, including but not limited to staff meetings, attendance at programs, Bible Study, and staff gatherings.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required, with relevant experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, ministry leadership, or a service-oriented nonprofit environment.
  • A minimum of two years of experience coordinating or leading teams is required, along with at least five years of general workforce experience, preferably within volunteer coordination, community engagement, nonprofit ministry, or a service-oriented environment.
  • This position requires a well-balanced combination of relational warmth and strong organizational skills.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, including the ability to communicate clearly and professionally by phone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Proficiency with computers and technology is required to support communication, coordination, and reporting, including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment is essential.
  • Flexibility in work hours and days is required to support volunteer schedules and ministry needs.
  • The Volunteer Partners Coordinator must consistently uphold and support MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Commitment statements, as well as adhere to company dress code and professional standards for personal appearance.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background investigation, verification of eligibility to work in the United States, and compliance with all applicable organizational policies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote a culture of volunteerism by developing, maintaining, and communicating clearly defined volunteer roles that meet ministry and operational needs, with a strategic focus on recruiting and engaging Bay Area volunteers.
  • Coordinate and schedule volunteers in partnership with MHA departments, ensuring effective communication, coverage, and positive volunteer experiences.
  • Recruit, screen, onboard, and support volunteers and team leaders, including required documentation, training, and ongoing encouragement.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with volunteers by fostering a sense of community and belonging through regular communication, on-site engagement, recognition, appreciation, and periodic gatherings or relational activities that encourage connection, spiritual encouragement, and long-term engagement.
  • Develop and sustain strong, collaborative relationships with department leaders and managers who oversee areas where volunteers serve, ensuring volunteer roles, expectations, and schedules align with departmental needs and ministry priorities.
  • Serve as a liaison between volunteer teams and MHA staff, facilitating clear communication, mutual understanding, and problem-solving while representing the needs, interests, and perspectives of both volunteers and departments.
  • Track, maintain, and report volunteer engagement data, including hours served and skills inventories, and prepare monthly reports for leadership and Accounting to ensure visibility into program effectiveness and engagement goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of volunteer engagement and ministry effectiveness.
