About The Position

The Vice President of Operations is responsible for the overall operational success of Stanford Medicine Partners (SMP). This executive provides strategic and operational leadership across the core operations of SMP to ensure high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, financial performance, and patient experience. The role collaborates closely with the Executive Leadership Team, senior medical leaders, administrative teams, and enterprise peers to advance innovative care delivery, performance improvement, and growth initiatives, including activation and operational readiness of new facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to develop and implement SMP’s Strategic Project Plan (SPP) and Fiscal Year operational plans.
  • Establish and monitor budgets, resource allocation, and policies in partnership with senior leaders.
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives to optimize clinical quality, patient access, cost management, and patient satisfaction.
  • Pilot and disseminate best practices across SMP
  • Oversee daily core operations across SMP by overseeing the Executive Directors of Operations and Senior Director of Clinical operations.
  • Provide leadership and development for department managers and staff; foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Ensure successful implementation of technology and information systems including EMR, practice management systems and AI solutions.
  • Participate in facility design and expansion planning as needed.
  • Ensure optimization of staffing efficiency within all SMP locations by implementing workforce models, productivity standards, and staffing benchmarks.
  • Develop scalable support structures to optimize in-basket management and reduce provider burden.
  • Create and operationalize care delivery and access models to improve patient access, reduce wait times, and enhance capacity.
  • Support development, execution, and monitoring of the SMP Operational Plan.
  • Develop data-driven recommendations and action plans to improve patient experience, financial strength, quality, and people engagement.
  • Develop and monitor operating and capital budgets with P&L responsibility.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial performance through process improvements, capacity management, and strategic investments.
  • Align financial plans with strategic priorities and performance targets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, HIPAA, and regulatory policies; monitor quality and patient safety metrics.
  • Implement risk management initiatives and continuous quality improvement.
  • Promote patient-centered care and privacy standards.
  • Collaborate with peer service line leaders and executives to share and scale best practices.
  • Support business case development and rationale for expansion opportunities.
  • Mentor and develop executive directors, directors, and managers.
  • Foster a culture of proactive, integrated, high-quality care delivery.
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, retention, succession planning, and staff development.
  • Communicate effectively with clinicians, employees, administration, and partners.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration across operational, financial, and administrative domains.
