Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology or a related field.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility or related field.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification Card, and the ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
  • Requires the ability to work overtime and duty administrative office hours.
  • Requires the ability to be on-call.
  • Requires the use of agency-supplied technology.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act, requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and or other medical standards set out by the employer.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and implements rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures governing employee and individuals in custody.
  • Directs and evaluates program responsibility.
  • Plans and directs facility budget.
  • Consults with court officials, law enforcement personnel, and other agencies regarding care and custody of individuals in custody.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Completes inspections of overall physical plant, equipment, and grounds for safety, security, sanitation, efficiency, maintenance, and to ensure operational effectiveness of facility.
  • Travels to speak before civic groups and organizations to discuss programs of the facility and the Department of Corrections.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
