About The Position

TWC is actively seeking talented, driven and highly-productive applicants for the position of Water Quality Technician to join our dynamic team. Position Overview: This role is responsible for supporting H2O America’s water quality program, including but not limited to, data analysis and issue mitigation, sampling, backflow, and flushing. This role also focuses on regulatory compliance relating to drinking and wastewater standards, while liaising with internal teams as well as regulatory bodies, businesses, and the public. This role requires strong communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills to ensure compliance and deliver critical services to customers. Based on regional differences and the business needs of the company, responsibilities and percentage of time served performing different tasks may be different from employee to employee. The general responsibilities are listed below, and the day-to-day focus is based on the discretion of the Lead and Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or 6 months of relevant professional experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain their Class D Water Treatment Operator License within a reasonable amount of time and show demonstrated progress towards Class C license.
  • Holds relevant certifications required for the team’s need or directed by management.
  • Experience working in a science, engineering, laboratory, or other technical environment preferred.
  • High proficiency in computer skills.
  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer Service Inspector (CSI) License, preferred.
  • Customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes water quality data to identify deficiencies and develop recommendations and resolutions accordingly.
  • Executes routine and special sampling programs and manages lab results(e.g. PFAS, DBP, Lead and Copper, LT2 and cryptosporidium). Schedules sampling with Operations team to ensure state public health department compliance.
  • Conducts routine backflow prevention testing to ensure compliance with local and state water safety regulations; maintains accurate records of inspections and certifications.
  • Perform systematic water main flushing operations to maintain water quality standards, remove sediment buildup, and ensure proper chlorine residuals throughout the distribution system.
  • Collaborates with other teams (e.g. Engineering, Operations, Distribution) to resolve or mitigate water quality issues.
  • Supports broader environmental quality efforts by implementing pre-determined protection plans.
  • Assists in tracking rulemaking at all levels of government and executes pre-determined response plans.
  • Ensures water quality permit requirements are met.
  • Assists in researching and drafting technical reports on topics such as public health concerns, contaminants of emerging concern, environmental health, and changes in treatment technologies.
  • Assists with the development of communications materials, including Annual Consumer Confidence reports and other customer-facing materials.
  • May work directly with customers and other stakeholders to address water quality issues.
  • Successfully responds to routine emergency situations. Must be able to work off-shift hours and weekend to perform maintenance and resolve urgent water quality issues.
  • Adheres to learning, following and ensuring compliance with all company safety rules. This includes rules and regulations in the Company Safety Manual, OSHA regulations and other state, federal, or governing body’s rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
