About The Position

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties, locations, and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this job. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description, and incumbent(s) may be required to perform work-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description. This job description is not a “contract” between the employee and the Authority. The job duties and essential functions may be changed at the discretion of the General Manager. The Water Services Worker 06, as a crewmember, performs basic regular and recurring assignments in support of the operation and maintenance of the water supply system under the overall guidance of the Foreman or a journeyman worker.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience working in the installation and/or maintenance of water services and cross-connection devices.
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Basic knowledge of DC Water and sewer distribution and sewer systems and interaction of other utility systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of the processes and methods used in performing the work, operating the equipment, vehicles, and tools needed to perform assignments.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License.
  • English
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Subject to indoor and/or outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures.
  • Works in water-filled and muddy ditches.
  • Subject to noise.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various manual, recurring and semiskilled tasks.
  • Participates in preventative maintenance, repair and replacement of mains and service lines.
  • Assists in the operation of valves and hydrants to facilitate pressure tests, disinfection tests, main and services activation and other purposes such as cross-connection inspection and flow tests.
  • Cleans and restores work sites after jobs are completed to ensure that worksites are left in a neat, safe and acceptable condition.
  • Assists in the setup of traffic control, directs traffic, arranges safety blocks and safety signals, erects barricades and warning devices.
  • Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
  • Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position.
  • Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
  • Operates tools, equipment and non CDL vehicles to accomplish work.
  • Gathers information for use in daily work reports.
  • Works shift work, holidays and weekends.
  • Works on call during hours and schedule identified by the Authority and is required to work overtime during emergencies.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.
