About The Position

Laurel Heights Hospital is a 112-bed facility located in Atlanta Ga. We are dedicated to providing youth with compassionate mental health treatment that encourages self-responsibility and personal growth. We provide psychiatric treatment to children and adolescents that present with a broad range of psychiatric, behavioral disorders and autism. A clinically skilled multidisciplinary team works to partner with the youth and family to accomplish their goals in a supportive and therapeutic environment. Educational instructors, registered occupational therapist/certified occupational therapy assistant, certified therapeutic recreation specialist, certified therapeutic recreation assistant, speech-language pathologist has certificate of clinical competence, registered and certified music therapist, registered art therapist, and registered physical therapist. The qualified vocational specialist may perform duties of a rehabilitation counselor, vocational evaluator, or the work adjustment specialist. Our Recreation Therapist must have the ability to: Plan goal oriented therapeutic recreation activities and function as member of multi-disciplinary team, and provide a lead role with hands-on facilitation for groups. The individual must have skills in assessing motor skills, cognition, and social functioning with ability to develop measurable treatment goals pertaining to need areas. The individual must possess physical endurance and stamina. The individual must be able to obtain lifeguard certification with 1 year of employment if necessary. Skills are required in dealing courteously with public and other staff within organization and firm knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology. Must be able to prioritize and manage time, problem-solving abilities, use of appropriate social skills, including role modeling and respect for staff and children. Must be able to show empathy toward children and adolescents, knowledge of child growth and development, skills in limit-setting necessary and ability to supervise Mental Health Associates/Residential Instructors within groups. Practice of therapeutic/professional boundaries; Have a willingness to seek/accept supervision when needed. Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Therapeutic Recreation from accredited program.
  • Experience working with behaviorally disordered children/adolescents, preferably those with an Autism Spectrum Disorders or related developmentally disabled.
  • CRTS or MT-BC or ATCB or eligible to obtain certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Successful completion of CPR certification, age-specific training, lifeguard certification with 1 year of employment if necessary and the current patient aggression management training within 90 days of employment.
  • Employee must have a valid Georgia Driver's License
