About The Position

The position involves designing, developing, and implementing industrial machinery and equipment, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, prototype model productions, and machine attachments required for production or experimental use. The role requires consideration of factors such as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements. The candidate may use CATIA and/or additional platforms to design and control tools and tooling. Under minimal direction, the individual will support manufacturing and various linked departments in evaluating, developing, planning, coordinating, directing, and improving tool fabrication processes. The role includes facilitating all tool fabrication activities from design to fabrication, including make or buy decisions, and supporting Manufacturing Engineering during tool selection and quoting processes.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from a two-year college or university, or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of Stake Welding, Orbital Welding, and Boom Welding.
  • Strong background in Welding Automation and Welding Technology.
  • Ability to evaluate weld quality using Visual, Penetrant, and radiographic inspections.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs complex tool engineering assignments on a variety of production lines to manufacture company products.
  • Participates in quotation proposals by supporting manufacturing concepts to establish efficient and cost-effective fabrication tooling.
  • Participates in product and process development and design reviews, approves all tool design drawings, and ensures smooth transfer into production.
  • Researches and establishes manufacturing requirements for tooling including cost estimates and decides upon make or buy decisions for tooling.
  • Approves completed tool designs for fabrication and maintains liaison with internal personnel and suppliers regarding tooling activity.
  • Conducts cost analysis on tooling per project or program and conducts other special investigations as required.
  • Furnishes tooling guidance to Manufacturing Engineer and Tool Designer engaged in tool planning, design, and distribution.
  • Conducts and participates in Lean Manufacturing activities, including 6S and Kaizen events.
