About The Position

The Welder shall perform welding with a focus on repair, fabrication, alteration, and fabrication on the MATSS vessel, and be located full-time on Oahu, Hawaii. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Riding the MATSS vessel during all at-sea missions to participate in all at-sea Contractor operations including performing deck and rigging tasks, cooking, cleaning, conducting rounds, standing watch, participating in firefighting operations, and performing emergency repairs. Welder(s) shall be able to demonstrate (upon request) vertical-up weld on 3/8” carbon steel (S-1 type such as DH-36) using weld process of choice, to be subjected to nondestructive examination (NDE) or destructive root bend and face bend test as per Section 5.4 “Test and evaluation of qualification test assemblies.” Welder(s) is not required to be fully-certified to S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248. When welding work is not required the individual shall perform deck work as directed, as well as preservation, cleaning, maintenance, fabrication, upgrade/expansion, and repair duties.

Requirements

  • 2-year Technical School desired.
  • Training and certifications in firefighting, ship damage control, rigging, crane operation, forklift operation, man-lift operation, first aid, automatic external defibrillators, and CPR are highly desired.
  • 10 years of relevant work experience or graduated from a technical school with eight years of relevant work experience.
  • Relevant work experience should be similar in scope, including at-sea vessel operations (deck, rigging and line handling tasks, cooking, cleaning, conducting rounds, standing watch, participating in firefighting operations, and performing emergency repairs), in-port operations (rigging, crane operation, forklift operation, man-lift operation), and maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, upgrades, fabrication, installation, operational and testing support of HM&E systems similar to those found on MATSS.
  • Experience should be particularly focused in the welding aspects of these systems.
  • SECRET Clearance is required.
  • Excellent English communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Individual must have a sound working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications, e.g., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the required pre-employment screenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification to American Welding Society (AWS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) or NAVSEA standards for welding of steel and / or copper-nickel pipe is not required but highly desirable.
  • Certification or prior experience in weld non-destructive testing (NDT), with prior licensure to level II is not mandatory but is highly desirable.
