About The Position

The welders helper provides essential support to welders by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe work environment. The ideal candidate will have entry level welding experience.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum one (1) year work related skill, knowledge, and hands on experience or vocational training preferred, but not required.
  • Sensitive to confidential information.
  • Must work independently and as a member of team.
  • Able to read, speak and write English.
  • Strong physical and mental health to maintain demanding workload.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
  • Climbing - able to go up and down stairs.
  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats when needed, including welding safety equipment.
  • Position will consistently dictate 40 hours per week with overtime demands based on the workload requirements.
  • Position will require some (6) six day weeks when workload demands, with time off scheduled per current workload and other staff availability.

  • Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.

Responsibilities

  • Operate safety equipment, and use safe work habits.
  • Monitor the work area for fire hazards (fire watch), maintain a clean workspace, and perform basic preventive maintenance on tools.
  • Prepare materials, by cleaning, grinding, and prep metal surfaces using wire brushes, grinders to ensure high quality welds.
  • Assist with Equipment Set up; welding machines, lead cables and gas cylinders
  • Fit-up: align and clamp workpieces in jigs or fixtures according to blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Measure and cut steel to specifications determined by blue print or cut list provided.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Report non-conforming materials to supervisor.
  • Operate forklift, overhead crane, or hoist to move heavy steal plates
  • Performs other related duties as required.
