About The Position

The Back Welder 5 position is an individual contributor. This person must be a highly driven individual that will weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders using a variety of welding equipment.

Requirements

  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment.
  • Wear the required personal protective equipment and follow facility safety regulations.
  • This position requires flexibility and the ability to work in different work areas as needed
  • Ability to regularly meet or exceed production goals while not sacrificing safety or quality.
  • Ability to read weld symbols, WPS (welding procedure specifications) and understand flat sheets.
  • The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes
  • Must be able to use and accurately read a tape measure.
  • Able to lift, push, pull or tug up to 50 pounds.
  • Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner.
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
  • Must be able to square or round product into tolerance
  • At least one (1) years of minimum welding experience
  • AWS certified welder operator qualification
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two (1 - 2) years of previous, hands-on MIG welding and SAW experience in a production environment
  • One to two (1 - 2) years of previous experience in a professional welding position
  • Computer Software: Workforce Mii
  • Able to do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and fraction conversion)

Responsibilities

  • Utilize all safety devices and wear all mandatory personal protective safety equipment.
  • Maintain and operate production tooling and fixtures as well as all welding equipment in a safe and secure manner.
  • Ability to produce high quality welds by means GMAW arc welding in shop environment
  • Perform welding operations requiring a limited amount of planning of work from flat sheet or other written specifications and determine operation sequence while consistently meeting production goals.
  • Adjust welding equipment to its prescribed settings.
  • Read and complete labor reporting system, standard shop forms and flat sheet
  • Daily operation of overhead cranes
  • Must be SAW certified
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned.
  • Read and decipher flat sheets without assistance and use them to properly weld scheduled work.
  • Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty.
  • Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery.
  • Ability to work independently the majority of the shift
  • Submit two (2) safety contact cards on a monthly basis
  • Actively participate in department LEAN activities and demonstrated performance working in a team environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Valmont’s quality procedures, standards, and practices
