About The Position

The Student Conservation Association provides an array of corps and crews programming across the country. Program Coordinators help with the administrative and logistical tasks of executing program in their corresponding region. The Program Coordinator position is responsible for ensuring the logistical and administrative task lists associated with the safe, complete and accurate execution of SCA’s various Crew and Corps programs in their portfolio are completed in a timely manner. This person helps ensures field leaders are equipped for the program delivery work scheduled, comply with curriculum and any applicable mandates, safety controls, logistical service/program delivery needs, and mandatory internal record-keeping and administrative requirements. This position reports to the Program Manager of Western Corps. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Western Corps operational hub in Ridgecrest, CA and will require travel to trainings and site visits.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years’ experience working in conservation or a related field
  • Associates or Bachelors in a related field preferred
  • Experience working in conservation and strong technical outdoor skills
  • Project management experience in a collaborative environment
  • Strong communication skills when working with various external and internal partners
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of service and response
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Wilderness First Responder and Adult CPR certifications or ability to obtain during 2026 summer prep period
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets SCA standards
  • The ability to travel (up to 35% of the year) for extended periods of time outside and over a variety of terrain

Responsibilities

  • Work with program manager and other program staff to review execution plan and ensure necessary preparations and monitoring plans are completed
  • Help monitor leaders’ project delivery and crew management to ensure compliance with administrative and other curriculum checklists
  • Plan and organize project logistics prior to program
  • Support field-based programming by organizing, maintaining and/or replacing broken/damaged gear, equipment and tools
  • Provide operational support by managing Western Corps’ operational hub in Ridgecrest, CA
  • Report, track and respond to incidents in accordance with SCA policies and procedures
  • Responsible for modeling, facilitating, and building community
  • Prepare vehicles for programs to use, cleaning and taking in for routine maintenance
  • Assure members and leaders are trained for the safe, proficient, and effective delivery of program services
  • Promote leadership and career development and complete formal evaluations
  • Assist with SCA’s education and risk/safety management curriculum, policy, and protocol development and delivery
  • Additional training, as required, for appropriate program operation and support
  • Share on-the-ground learnings with Program Manager for Western Crew and Corps programs
  • Conduct program reviews by administering and reviewing surveys, conducting field site visits, and soliciting feedback from partners on program effectiveness
  • Assist Manager and Sr. Manager in developing and updating systems, resources and trainings for ongoing program improvement
  • Assists in the development of programmatic materials such as handbooks, field logs, and enrollment forms
  • Assist the Western Crew and Corps Program team and Partnership staff to build relationships with agency partners on a local level
  • Work to engage alumni in creative ways
  • Represent Western Crew and Corps Program at SCA and other events
  • Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, and enrollment of leaders and senior members
  • Assist with preseason tasks to prepare members and leaders for their season
  • Provide leaders and members with necessary supplies and other logistical requirements
  • Responsible for assisting HR as requested with in-person onboarding requirements of members and leaders
