About The Position

Conducts nutrition, breastfeeding/chestfeeding, and health education contacts for WIC Program applicants and participants. Performs nutrition and breastfeeding/chestfeeding risk assessments, including individual education and breastfeeding/chestfeeding support for low-risk women, infants, and children participating in the WIC Program. Conducts enrollments and certifications of WIC Program applicants and participants according to WIC program policies and guidelines. Distributes WIC cards in accordance to established procedures and performs clerical functions to support WIC Program site operations. Position requires a background check and health clearance

Requirements

  • Associate degree in nutrition, public health, maternal and child health, or related field required. Certified WIC Nutrition Assistant with college coursework in maternal and child health/nutrition is accepted in lieu of associate’s degree.
  • Minimum Job Related Experience One year experience in any of the following areas: customer service, nutrition or health, teaching and/or counseling, or comprehensive health training may substitute for WIC experience.
  • Minimum Education or Training Requirements High School graduate, GED or equivalent. WIC Nutrition Assistant (WNA) certification is required.
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Proof of personal auto insurance
  • Personal transportation with current California registration
  • Familiarity with WIC program services, regulations, and policies, including competency in using WIC WISE
  • Demonstrated group presentation and facilitation skills and counseling abilities, utilizing PCE and MI techniques as appropriate
  • Knowledge of basic principles of breastfeeding support and maternal and child health and nutrition
  • Comprehensive knowledge of WIC program policies and procedures, WIC WISE, BFPC database, IZ policies and procedures, CAIR2, and the LBL database
  • Strong community outreach skills and abilities
  • Strong computer skills, able to satisfactorily perform work using WIC WISE, LBL, and CAIR2 databases, Google Meet, Zoom, doxy.me, and other videoconferencing platforms, as well as email communication
  • Demonstrated interest in and the ability to work with WIC's target population group
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teaching and PCE counseling skills
  • Strong organization and administrative skills; attention to detail
  • Sensitive to and respect for the cultural diversity and bias of the target population
  • Possess culturally competent skills and abilities
  • Dependable personal transportation for traveling to WIC sites and administrative office for meetings
  • Demonstrated ability to be self motivated and to work independently without close supervision occasionally
  • Willingness to become proficient in basic conversational Spanish
  • Available to work dependable, flexible shift
