About The Position

The Wildlife Mitigation Program (WMP) of the Spokane Tribe manages 8,407 acres of mitigation lands secured for the Tribe by Bonneville Power Administration to mitigate the impacts of Grand Coulee Dam. The Wildlife Technician I position is a full-time seasonal position with layoff up to 3.5 months. This employee is expected to complete tasks assigned while working in either a team setting or independently with supervision.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work in a professional setting.
  • Ability to communicate (orally or written) effectively.
  • Willing to work in extreme weather conditions and rugged terrain.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and long hours in the field.
  • Ability to identify native and non-native plants and wildlife to this area.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with wildlife habitat enhancements and maintenance including, but not limited to tree and shrub planting, native grass and cover crop seeding, water developments, prescribed burns, fence maintenance, and maintenance of equipment and Tribal facilities.
  • Assist with wildlife and habitat surveys.
  • Collect accurate data when conducting field work such as fence maintenance, vegetation inventories, herbicide application, equipment maintenance, and vehicle logs.
  • The incumbent is expected to be punctual, self-motivated, and exercise sound judgment (safety-oriented) in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
  • Assist with fish collection and allocation for cultural subsistence needs.
  • Assist Tribal biologists with data collection during the Spokane Tribe’s general elk season.
  • Willing to work weekends and long hours in the field during planting seasons.
  • Other duties as assigned.
