About The Position

The wound care clinic RN specializes in the care and management of patients with acute or chronic wounds. The nurse assesses and treats lacerations, puncture wounds, surgical wounds, pressure sores, ostomies, diabetic ulcers, and other integumentary system malfunctions. They play a pivotal role in promoting healing, preventing infection, and improving the overall quality of life for wound care patients. The nurse collaborates closely with members of the multidisciplinary wound care team to ensure that tailored treatment plans are adhered to avoid illness in the future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Registered Nurse
  • Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) or equivalent certification required within a year.
  • Three years nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory setting

Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of wound healing processes and types (e.g., pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, surgical wounds)
  • Proficiency in wound assessment and documentation (size, depth, exudate, tissue type)
  • Skilled in selecting and applying appropriate wound care products and dressings
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and regulatory guidelines (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission)
  • Ability to educate patients and caregivers on wound care and prevention
  • Competence in using wound care technologies and electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment in wound management
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in assessments and interventions
  • Effective communication and empathy in patient interactions
  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for comprehensive care
  • Adaptability in modifying care plans based on wound progression
  • Leadership and mentoring skills in guiding staff on wound care best practices
