About The Position

HundredStar Games is a video game start-up based in Stratford, East London. With innovation at our core, we're dedicated to pushing boundaries, embracing diversity, and fostering a vibrant gaming community. Our empowering company culture is unique to the industry which encourages leadership at all levels, accountability, team support, vulnerability, and connection. Growing to a maximum of 100 people over the next few years, we’re doing things differently at HundredStar so we can all focus on making great games and we have an amazing team and a great project. We’re looking for a Writer (1 Year Contract) to join our fantastic Writing team and bring the game’s world and supporting characters to life. Working closely with our Writing team and Studio Creative Director, you'll help to create ambient conversations, side stories and missions, as well as bringing depth and richness to the story lore. We’re a hybrid studio, with everyone working in studio Tuesday through Thursday, with Mondays and Fridays the dedicated WFH days.

Requirements

  • Someone with experience of writing for games, film, tv, or theatre.
  • The ideal candidate has a passion for storytelling and understands the deep partnership between gameplay and narrative.
  • Passion for live collaboration and idea generation.
  • Excellent ear for dialogue and character voice.
  • Fluency with screenplay formatting, one-shot lines and combat dialogue

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with development tools such as game engines, interactive fiction editors, and dialogue databases would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with our Writers and Design department to create compelling and grounded stories, ensuring they match the exciting gameplay elements we’re implementing.
  • Write concise and evocative dialogue in multiple voices.
  • Iterate on content independently, striving for the highest quality and alignment to the needs of the piece.
  • Write character and world guides, alongside other supporting narrative content.
  • Foster a collaborative spirit within the studio and encourage cross-disciplinary discussion for ease of development and progression of the project.
