About The Position

Provides individual instruction and coaching to supplement classroom learning. Please read the job description thoroughly before submitting an application. If hired, employment will begin on April 29th, 2026 (first day of Spring semester). Job Description Direct one-on-one tutoring. Create and maintain weekly labs for ENGL101/315 (assigned as needed). Complete one level of CRLA certification each semester. This position requires an employment commitment of 3 consecutive semesters. Candidates who cannot commit to 3 semesters of employment will not be considered. Propose, plan, and responsibly complete a project that will service our students and enhance the Lab. This project guarantees 19 hours of work, even when tutorials are not available. Attend all weekly staff meetings, trainings, and ENGL 395R class. Staff meetings are held every Wednesday at 5pm. Training done during staff meetings is required for CRLA certification, thus, candidates who are not able to attend the staff meeting will not be hired. Learn and fulfill all reception desk duties, which include answering phones, responding to emails and social media messages, maintaining the appointments calendar, assigning the wait list as needed, acting as a contact point for tutees and tutors, etc. Complete a weekly work log (required for CRLA certification). Prepare and teach two workshops each semester. Tutors may also be asked to plan and present in-class workshops as requested. Enroll in and complete three semesters of English 395R (required for CRLA certification). The class is held every Wednesday at 6pm (2nd block for Fall and Winter, full term for Spring). Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of English 101 with a B- grade or better, or transfer credit equivalent.
  • Complete the English Skills Assessment with 80% or higher grade (65 out of 81 points).
  • Submit a sample of your current academic writing (minimum 1 page, double spaced. A page from a recent class essay or paper will work.)
  • Submit a current resume with references.
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  • Commit to 3 consecutive semesters of employment.
  • Attend all weekly staff meetings and trainings on Wednesdays at 5PM (required for CRLA).
  • Work 19 hours per week (15 hours minimum)
  • Be punctual and flexible. You may be required to work evenings or Saturdays.
  • Relate to diverse ethnic backgrounds.
  • Must exemplify the University Honor Code, including the dress and grooming principles and expectations.
  • Education Lower Division Courses Completed
  • Work Experience 6 Months General Work Experience

  • A recommendation from an English or EIL professor, or any University-level instructor is strongly recommended.
