The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) is seeking a Nuclear Safety Manager I to serve as the X-Ray, Laser & Mammography Inspection Manager. This position will be responsible for overseeing the X-Ray, Laser, and Mammography Inspection programs for IEMA-OHS, and evaluating potential radiation hazards throughout the state of Illinois. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of: (a) a master’s degree in health physics, nuclear physics, radiation safety, or related field, or a master’s degree in business or public administration; or (b) a bachelor’s degree in health physics, nuclear physics, radiation safety, environmental protection, or related field, or business or public administration supplemented by four (4) years of appropriate experience.
  • Requires a criminal history check through the Illinois State Police.
  • Requires ability to use state-issued equipment such as cell phone, laptop, etc.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of experience in the supervision and management of subordinate staff in the performance of routine job duties and special projects.
  • Three (3) years of experience conducting field inspections on x-ray and laser equipment and reviewing inspection reports.
  • Three (3) years of experience evaluating x-ray machines used in both medical and industrial applications.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing mammography inspections as an FDA certified MQSA inspector.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the evaluation of class 3B and 4 laser systems.
  • Two (2) years of management experience with oversight of multiple programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a working supervisor
  • Oversees the X-Ray, Laser, and Mammography Inspection programs for IEMA-OHS.
  • Oversees the evaluation of potential radiation hazards throughout the state of Illinois.
  • Develops and administers training programs for the X-Ray, Laser & Mammography Inspection Section.
  • Advises and consults with physicians, dentists, and other professionals on the proper utilization of x-ray and laser producing systems.
  • Performs duties of assigned team position as a member of the Radiological Task Force and remains available for callback during radiological and nuclear emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as required which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
