AMI will be assisting in providing medical staff to the VA Portland Healthcare System in Portland, Oregon to help deliver compassionate and quality healthcare to patients in the area. AMI is seeking a skilled and dedicated X-Ray Technologist to perform diagnostic radiographic procedures in support of patient care under the direction of Radiologists and Diagnostic Imaging leadership. This role requires technical proficiency in radiographic imaging, strict adherence to radiation safety and infection control standards, and the ability to function independently while supporting routine, portable, and emergency imaging needs in a veteran-centered healthcare environment.

  • 2 years experience
  • Must have worked in hospital in last 6 months
  • Must be available to commit to 6 months up front

  • Deliver targeted, culturally appropriate information to help individuals and groups understand health promotion and disease prevention information, policies, regulations, and local code.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for radiologic procedures, ensuring proper identification, explaining exams, verifying pregnancy status when applicable, and maintaining patient comfort and safety.
  • Perform diagnostic X-ray examinations by setting up and operating radiographic equipment in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.
  • Select and adjust appropriate technical and ionizing exposure factors, position patients correctly, and evaluate images for clarity, accuracy, and diagnostic quality; repeat images as necessary.
  • Adhere to radiation safety principles to protect patients, staff, and self, including proper shielding, exposure controls, and compliance with safety policies.
  • Implement and maintain infection control procedures within imaging areas and during patient interactions.
  • Edit and process images to ensure proper positioning, labeling, and patient identification, and enter required exam data into computerized hospital systems (e.g., DHCP/HIS-RIS).
  • Maintain accurate records of examinations performed, including views, images, and technical settings, in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.
  • Perform routine and specialized radiographic examinations, including chest, joints, extremities, gastrointestinal studies (upper GI, barium enemas), IVPs, and other complex procedures under radiologist direction as required.
  • Conduct portable X-ray examinations throughout the medical center, notifying nearby staff and visitors of radiation exposure precautions.
  • Inspect imaging equipment for proper operation prior to examinations and report equipment issues promptly to supervisory staff or radiologists.
  • Prepare and maintain the X-ray room by ensuring necessary supplies, contrast materials, and equipment are available, sterile, and properly arranged.
  • Provide professional customer service, greeting patients, assisting with appointment verification, answering phones, and supporting patient flow within the department.
  • Ensure patient safety and safe patient handling during all examinations and movements.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and restock supplies at the end of assigned shifts.
  • Document and report unusual events or incidents occurring during assigned tours to the on-call radiologist or supervisory technologist.
  • Participate in after-hours and on-call coverage, responding to emergency imaging needs in accordance with Diagnostic Imaging Service policies.
  • Follow established after-hours escalation procedures when no radiologist is on duty, referring concerns to on-call radiologists, affiliated teaching institutions, or the Chief Technologist as appropriate, and provide written documentation of events as required.
  • Maintain punctuality, communicate coverage issues to supervisory staff, and remain on duty until properly relieved.
