About The Position

Knudson Lumber is seeking a strong, hands-on Yard Foreman to lead our Yard Team. This position is responsible for supervising Yard Technicians, Delivery Drivers, Yard Leads, and other yard personnel while ensuring exceptional customer service and operational excellence. As a valued team member of Knudson Lumber, your number one priority will always be ensuring our customers receive the best customer service. All team members must greet customers with a warm smile, offer assistance, or guide them to the appropriate team member. Answering incoming phone calls and directing them appropriately is also part of the responsibility. CUSTOMERS ALWAYS COME FIRST – all other duties follow. This is not an all-encompassing job description. As a small company, we expect every team member to step in and help wherever necessary when asked by management or leadership.

Requirements

Previous supervisory or leadership experience (yard, warehouse, or construction environment preferred)
Strong knowledge of lumber yard operations and materials handling
Experience operating forklifts and heavy equipment
Strong organizational and team-building skills
Commitment to safety and enforcing company policies
Ability to lead by example and hold team members accountable
Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Responsibilities

Lead, manage, and hold accountable all Yard Technicians and Leads
Build a cooperative, team-focused yard environment
Promote strong morale and recognize exceptional performance
Assign daily responsibilities and zones
Conduct yard scheduling in coordination with company scheduler
Approve/deny time-off requests and adjust schedules as needed.
Monitor and approve department timecards.
Perform 30-day, 60-day, 90-day and annual reviews for department.
Ensure courteous and respectful loading of all customers
Reinforce customer-first culture in all yard operations
Encourage safe loading practices and proper customer vehicle procedures
Ensure all Yard Technicians are properly trained
Conduct new employee yard training
Ensure forklift certifications are complete
Review safety policies and radio procedures
Address performance or disciplinary concerns with management
Promote a strong Safety First culture
Ensure PPE is worn when required
Enforce seatbelt use and no cell phone or ear listening device use while operating equipment
Inspect forklifts daily for damage or maintenance issues
Ensure accidents, injuries, and damages are reported immediately
Verify fire extinguishers and eye wash stations are checked monthly
Assign daily radios and monitor accountability
Ensure unloading trucks and returned merchandise procedures are followed
Oversee inventory cycle counts and work with Inventory to resolve discrepancies
Ensure closing procedures are followed
Implement and oversee equipment maintenance programs
Maintain posted schedules for trucks, trailers, forklifts, saws, and tools
Maintain maintenance records in the office
Create cleaning schedules for yard vehicles and equipment
Oversee yard infrastructure maintenance including buildings, racking, fences, gates, locks, and ground surfaces
