Division Description ITW Deltar Fasteners is a large division within the Automotive Segment and serves all the major OEMs and their tier suppliers with plastic fasteners. Locations include: Frankfort, IL; Chippewa Falls, WI and our Commercial Sales and Engineering in Troy, MI. Position Summary The major areas of opportunities are: Understand how to maintain production and quality demands, gain experience in process development, and obtain knowledge in tooling and maintenance. Stage 1 of the Youth Internship program is a full-time summer position spent exploring the different roles within Deltar Fastener’s Technical Team. The focus is on gaining an understanding of production processes, quality demands, and the role of technical teams in supporting the business. Interns that successfully complete Stage 1 and are interested in continuing, may be offered the opportunity to progress into Stage 2 of the program. Stage 2 is more in-depth experience in one or two technical team departments and is determined by the intern’s area(s) of interest. This will be a part-time role with hours determined based on technical team availability and the interns high school schedule.

Requirements

  • Rising High School Senior
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. – 50% required
  • Good Housekeeping – 5S
  • Ability to read and understand written procedures and instructions
  • Attention to detail, along with good visual skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong communications skills both verbal and written
  • Basic computer skills

  • STEAM or CAD classes preferred

Responsibilities

  • Job shadow and assist the Production, Process Development, Tooling, and Maintenance departments
  • Operate injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment – walking/standing/squatting – 98% required
  • Inspect, label, and package product as per work instructions and customer requirements
  • Understand common materials and their properties
  • Exposure to injection molding process development and setup
  • Exposure to different types of injection molds and the equipment used to build and repair it
  • Exposure to preventative maintenance and repair of equipment used in the manufacturing process (injection molding machines, grinders, blenders, water heaters, robotics, PLCs, automated assembly machines, etc.)
  • Work from prints, specifications, and shop orders
  • Work from prints, specifications, and shop orders
  • Learn to work with blueprints, schematics, SOP’s and machine manuals
  • Learn to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of molding and automated machinery
  • Learn to troubleshoot/diagnose Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Learn to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems (including robotics)
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment and electrical testing instruments associated with a manufacturing setting
  • Learn the basics of injection molding, including troubleshooting, and maintaining hot runner tooling
  • Learn to set up and operate all tool room equipment including EDM and improvise where equipment is limited.
  • Learn to build and repair molds from part prints, 2D electronic prints, 3D CAD detail
  • Use of variety of precision measuring instruments, hand tools, machine shop equipment and mills, lathes, grinders, EDM.
  • Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned, may include ladder climbing – 5% required
