About The Position

This Zoo Interpreter position will primarily be responible for facilitating the
daily African Elephant Crossing Demonstration. They will engage guests and
crowds of varied ages and sizes and provide opportunities for interactive
learning and discovery. This position will help support additional interpretive
and educational programming as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university with coursework in education, theatre, natural science or related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of natural science, conservation and wildlife.
• Willingness to work weekends, holidays and some evenings as assigned.
• Demonstrated outgoing and engaging interpersonal skills.
• Patience with children and general public crowds.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
• Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
• Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
• Ability to use microphone equipment for public outdoor presentations.

Responsibilities

• Interprets Zoo exhibits, animals, and biofacts for individuals, groups and organizations of all age levels.
• Cooperates with and assists with the implementation of other education programs.
• Answers correspondence and provides an informational service in response to telephone, written or personal inquiries.
• Assists other Zoo and Cleveland Metroparks departments in projects benefiting the Park District.
• Performs tasks as required by Education Manager and the Director of Education and Engagement. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
• Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
• Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
