Raytheon is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to help lead new product development within the Electronic Warfare (EW) Mechanical Engineering section within the Vision Systems and Electronic Warfare Department. The section specializes in the design, integration, verification, and production of digital processor and RF receiver subsystems for airborne platforms. The candidate participates in the mechanical development supporting a variety of programs in Goleta, California. Key interfaces will be with other sections across the Department, other Engineering disciplines, as well as internal customers leading the supporting programs. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, the responsibilities will include all aspects of the Mechanical design process from concept to model / drawing completion for Mechanical Components of low to moderate complexity required to support product builds for each assigned task working under the general supervision of a team lead. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will perform conceptual and detailed mechanical design of RF products/sub-systems, High Density Electronic packaging designs, Antennas, and Electronic components/devices for application in ground, sea, and air‐borne defense. Candidate will be expected to follow established procedures and instructions while working closely with program/functional supervision to ensure the overall design objectives are met with the design. Contacts are primarily with the immediate section manager, team lead, project leaders, and other personnel (peers) within the applicable program. We are specifically seeking candidates who are hands-on, adaptable in a fast-paced environment, proactive, take ownership of work, communicate well with others, and enjoy solving unique problems every day. The position is an Onsite role, where you will be working primarily in Goleta, California during Summer 2026.

Requirements

  • This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree program and will be at minimum, entering their junior year by the start of summer 2026.
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience utilizing CAD (Computer Aided Design) tools such as CREO or equivalent.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Mechanical Design or Electronics Packaging Experience.
  • Ability to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field and general knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Knowledgeable in reading mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) analysis for drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Training and application of RTX tools including CREO and PDM.
  • Design and Documentation support utilizing engineering tools, Adobe, and MS office suite.
  • Engineering Change and Drawing Release.
  • Analytical and Technical engineering work within a program environment with possible presentations on designs as needed.
  • Training on Raytheon processes and procedures.
  • Work may include participation of building hardware in a lab environment.
