2026 Internship Project: Quantum Materials (JJ Development)

Rigetti ComputingBerkeley, CA
1d$35 - $50Onsite

About The Position

Rigetti is seeking a summer intern to support superconducting qubit fabrication at the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The intern will work in the cleanroom alongside the MF team and Rigetti engineers to fabricate qubit devices using varied Josephson junction processes. Fabricated devices will be measured and compared at Rigetti to inform process development.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or related field
  • Hands-on cleanroom experience
  • Experience with evaporation and/or sputtering systems
  • Ability to obtain affiliate status at LBNL

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AlOx Josephson junctions
  • Familiarity with superconducting qubits or related quantum devices

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate superconducting qubit devices in a cleanroom environment
  • Operate thin film deposition systems (e.g., evaporation and/or sputtering)
  • Support development and comparison of different Josephson junction processes
  • Document process parameters and experimental results
