About The Position

The Accountant III performs advanced accounting and financial analysis for the Extended and Extension Campus and Environmental programs. This role supports departmental leadership by managing $11 million in environmental contracts, preparing financial reports, monitoring budgets, and ensuring compliance with University policies. Work is performed with minimal supervision and requires strong accounting, analytical, and communication skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • At least four (4) years of accounting experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) or more years of higher education experience.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft FMS and MANTIS .
  • Experience working with multiple sources & types of funds with different regulations and project periods.
  • Experience in an academic or continuing education environment, including student/registration/course management software.

Responsibilities

  • Create, process, and manage service contracts and grant-related monthly invoices, while tracking corrections and ongoing accounting activities.
  • Review and audit expenditures, reimbursements, reports, and invoices to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with State, University, and sponsor policies and regulations.
  • Manage and oversee the setup and closing of projects and cost centers for environmental programs, including reconciling division-specific documentation with UT Share (PeopleSoft) to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Manage GSA payments, aging reports, unearned revenue, and late notice communications as needed.
  • Process daily deposits, including preparation of the daily revenue report, and handle all payment types by counting and reconciling cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
  • Assist management in planning, assigning, cross-training, and, when appropriate, supervising the work of interns, student assistants, work-study, and/or temporary employees.
  • Oversee tasks related to accounting transactions, data entry, reporting, invoicing, reconciliations, tracking logs, and communications with contract sponsors and other stakeholders.
  • Manage, prepare, and process a wide range of accounting transactions, including requisitions and purchase orders, vendor payments, travel and expense reimbursements, extra pay and stipends, payroll, and salary assignments.
  • Perform special projects, division-level financial tasks, and other duties as assigned.
