POSITION PURPOSE The Manufacturing Accountant supports the manufacturing finance team with core accounting responsibilities while developing hands-on experience in cost accounting and inventory management. Reporting to the Director of Cost Accounting, this role assists with month-end close, inventory accounting, and production cost tracking while gaining exposure to standard costing and manufacturing cost flows. This position is designed for an early-career accounting professional seeking to build a strong foundation in manufacturing finance, ERP systems, and plant-level cost drivers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Understanding of financial accounting principles, including debits and credits and general ledger processes.
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP preferred.
  • 0–2 years of accounting experience; internship or manufacturing exposure preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic formulas)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication and willingness to learn
  • Experience with ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in cost accounting and manufacturing finance

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support inventory accounting processes, including work-in-process (WIP) tracking, inventory reconciliations, and valuation support.
  • Collect, validate, and analyze production, labor, and material cost data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Record and support accounting for material destruction requisitions (MDRs), capital expenditures (CAPEX), and related inventory adjustments.
  • Assist in maintaining bills of material (BOMs), routings, and cost data within the ERP system (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365).
  • Support standard costing processes and perform basic variance analysis under the guidance of senior cost accounting leadership.
  • Participate in cycle counts and physical inventory audits; assist with reconciliation and documentation.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports using Excel and ERP data to support manufacturing finance activities.
  • Collaborate with operations and the cost accounting team to develop an understanding of manufacturing processes and cost drivers.
  • Maintain adherence to internal controls and accounting policies.
