About The Position

The Manufacturing Cost Accountant supports manufacturing cost accounting and inventory control activities within the Houston manufacturing facility. This role works closely with operations, purchasing, and engineering to ensure accurate product costing, inventory integrity, and financial visibility across the plant. This position requires a hands-on approach and regular interaction with the production floor to understand manufacturing processes, analyze cost drivers, and support inventory accuracy initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with direct responsibility for inventory and cost accounting.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing inventory, including cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, and inventory variance analysis, is required.
  • Experience with cost accounting, product costing, and manufacturing cost drivers.
  • Experience working with Bills of Material (BOMs) and inventory structures.
  • Experience with a manufacturing ERP system (Epicor preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work cross functionally with operations, purchasing, and engineering.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support cycle count activities and investigate inventory variances.
  • Analyze Purchase Price Variances (PPV) and partner with purchasing to understand material cost changes.
  • Assist with physical inventory planning, execution, and reconciliation.
  • Perform job costing analysis and review manufacturing cost drivers.
  • Analyze labor time and manufacturing efficiency against established standards.
  • Review and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) to ensure accurate product costing.
  • Partner with engineering and operations to validate routing structures and labor standards.
  • Support inventory accruals and cost-related month-end activities.
  • Review inventory transactions and ensure accurate costing within the ERP system.
  • Work closely with production, purchasing, and engineering to investigate cost drivers and inventory discrepancies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy and costing processes.
  • Provide analysis and reporting to support operational and financial decision making.
