About The Position

The Activities Aide is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of engaging, therapeutic recreational programs that enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of residents. Under the guidance of the Activities Director, this compassionate professional facilitates group events, provides one-on-one companionship, and helps maintain a vibrant, supportive community environment. Ultimately, the aide plays a crucial role in fostering socialization, encouraging independence, and improving the overall daily quality of life for both rehabilitating and long-term care residents.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Activity Facilitation: Assist in planning, organizing, and leading daily group recreational programs, including arts and crafts, music sessions, light exercise classes, and games.
  • Resident Transport: Safely escort and transport residents via wheelchair or walker to and from designated activity spaces to ensure safe and timely participation.
  • Setup and Teardown: Prepare the physical spaces for scheduled events by arranging furniture, gathering necessary supplies, and cleaning up the area once the activity concludes.
  • One-on-One Engagement: Conduct individualized room visits for residents who are bedbound, on isolation precautions, or prefer not to join group settings, offering companionship, reading, or bedside activities.
  • Encouragement and Socialization: Actively motivate residents to participate in community events and foster a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that promotes social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
  • Documentation: Record daily resident attendance, activity preferences, and participation levels in accordance with facility policies and state/federal regulatory requirements.
  • Observation and Reporting: Monitor residents during activities for any significant changes in mood, behavior, or physical ability, promptly reporting these observations to the nursing or clinical staff.
  • Supply Management: Help maintain the inventory of recreational supplies, ensuring that games, art materials, and audio-visual equipment are safe, clean, and properly stored after use.
  • Special Events: Assist with the coordination and execution of holiday celebrations, family social gatherings, and facility-wide entertainment events.
