Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution is required
  • BLS (offered at Hillsdale Hospital)
  • Excellent computer and communication skills
  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in and conduct semi-active programs
  • Enthusiasm to work with physically disabled and elderly individuals
  • Ability to deal with patients, staff and guests with tact and professionalism
  • Ability to identify unfavorable symptoms such as fatigue and irritability

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the design and development of recreational, social and therapeutic activities to meet the needs of residents in the long-term skilled nursing unit (e.g. games, crafts, music, exercise, bingo, and holiday events)
  • Decorates and prepares activity area
  • Adapts activities to meet residents' physical, cognitive and emotional abilities
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to residents
  • Assesses and documents residents' participation and responses to activities
  • Reports changes in residents' mood, behavior, or physical condition to nursing staff
  • Assists in maintaining activity calendars and records while supporting the Activities Coordinator in implementing monthly activity plans
  • Attends patient evaluation conferences and other meetings as necessary
  • Escorts residents to and from activities when required
